This past week, my oldest daughter started First Grade at an amazing Spanish Immersion school. So, as any parent would, we set out for school supplies to get her through the year. The great twist of this entire school supply excursion though, is that we had the privilege to purchase a bag of supplies for another student in need with Elmer’s Bag it Forward and Champions for Kids!
Our church partnered up a few years ago with a local elementary school, where the majority of its students come from very low-income families. Most of these families can barely afford to eat, let alone get school supplies for their children.
My daughter, being as young as she is, has not seen that kind of struggle, so when I was presented the opportunity to work with our church and Champions for Kids, it was the perfect opportunity to show my daughter how amazing it is to give to others in need, and to show that there are people in our community who need help.
After speaking with my sister-in-law, our church’s children’s minister, and getting the list of supplies needed, we zoomed on over to Walmart to get my daughter’s supplies and the supplies to donate as well. We picked up a few other things along our way as well, and you can check all of that out in Google Plus!
We had such a blast getting the supplies. I really feel it helped her to see that life is more than just us. It’s about others too!
The next day, we organized all the supplies and went over to the adopted school to give them our donation. My daughter seemed super happy to help someone in need. This opportunity really showed her a lot, and I am so thankful we had to opportunity to give back!
I thank God our church has partnered with this school so we can continually show the importance of serving others in our community. Whether you attend church or don’t, I strongly encourage you to give back and see the importance of Champions for Kids as well. It helps so many in need, and we are so blessed to be a part of it!
Tell me, what are your ideas for giving back with Champions for Kids?
