If you have kids, I am sure you can relate with me that mornings can be quite crazy. For me in the mornings, usually the general routine is this, in short: Get self up, get kids up, get kids to school, grumble around until I find my caffeine source (usually I buy a cup of coffee during my morning shenanigans), and then become a new person after coffee consumption. Now, most mornings are never complete without at least one child crying, another child dragging behind and another child unable to find something or unwilling to find said lost item. So now do you see my need for that coffee goodness? When I heard about Walmart offering McCafé coffee that I could actually brew at home, I was BEYOND thrilled! Not only can I have coffee ready before my morning routines, I can save some serious sanity and dough by having it on hand. I had heard about McCafé at Walmart during one of their live demos and was able to sample some of the coffee and let me tell you, I was impressed. And, do you know what this mean folks? This means that I can enjoy McCafé coffee whenever, however, wherever I want. Woohoo!
And, when I am at home, I have it on tap via Keurig coffee pods or grounds right out of the McCafé coffee bag. Yes!
I must say that coffee gives me the morning motivation to get my day started right because the Lord knows that I am a busy woman! I can take all the help I can get.
For me, no coffee is complete with any type of sweetener and/or flavor, so I wanted to make a delicious creamer from scratch that complimented the McCafé coffee very well. I have made coffee creamer a few times and I tell you what, you would be surprised at home incredibly easy it is to make. And so good. It really is a great idea for a gift in a jar for a friend and definitely something to have on hand at all times!
This coffee creamer is great because a) it’s cheap to make, b) it makes a lot and c) you can make virtually any flavor you want! This time, I made a jar of creamer for a friend and attached a treat bag with four or so McCafé coffee pods. My close friend Aimee is a coffee lover just like me. I know things are stressful with her lately with kids and work (I can totally relate), so I wanted to make her something that she would absolutely love and that connects us both. I know it’s weird that a friendship can be connected by coffee, but it totally can. Whenever we’re together, there is always coffee involved in one way or another!
To make your homemade creamer, this is basically all you need. A canning jar (or you can recycle any glass jar, as long is it’s at least 24 oz), a can of sweetened condensed milk, some type of milk (regular milk- any fat content, soy milk, almond milk, half and half– I used half and half), and your flavorings. I made toasted almond creamer so I used almond extract.
- 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
- 1-2/3 cup half and half (or regular milk, soy milk, almond milk, etc)
- 2 teaspoons almond extract
- 1- glass jar that holds at least 24 oz
- Combine all ingredients in jar and screw lid on tightly. Shake vigorously until all ingredients are combined. Refrigerate when not in use.
And since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, I thought McCafé coffee pods would be a perfect gift in a jar idea for Valentine’s Day! I know my daughters teachers will love receiving this caffeinated gift of love this year. Such a simple, yet thoughtful gift for any time of year, really! Just take some pint jars, add some crinkle paper to the bottom, and add 2 McCafé coffee pods and chocolates to the jar. Woo!
Since I was making these gifts in a jar for Valentine’s day, I thought I would make these cute Valentine printable to add to the jar with a simple piece of ribbon. I love the little coffee play on words.. what a sweet gesture for the teachers from their beautiful little students. 🙂
Feel free to click on the picture above, print and cut it out and attach it to your jar with a piece of ribbon or string. Enjoy, and happy V-day! I hope these gifts in a jar idea help you this Valentine’s Day and beyond.
Which of the eight (yes-EIGHT!) McCafé coffee flavor are you excited to try? Me? I am excited to try them all! Tell me yours in the comments below!
