Well folks, after almost 10 years, 3 kids, and lots and lots of memories, it looks like we are going to be selling our first home in hopes of buying something more suitable for our family of 5! This house has served us well, but it is time to move on because it has definitely shrunk over the past 10 years and by golly, we keep on growing! This home is only 949 square feet and originally had 3 bedrooms and one bath. About 6 years ago, we converted the garage and added an extra bathroom and living space (AKA storage dungeon– which is a sore spot for me.. I am sure I will tell you why later), but the house is still too small and dinky for us!
For the past couple of weeks I have been very slowly, but surely prepping our house to sell. If you all haven’t heard about 40 bags in 40 days from the White House Black Shutter blog, I highly recommend it! Her plan to declutter and purge over Lent has fallen perfectly in the timeframe of getting this house ready for market. I think everyone at my local Goodwill donation center knows me by first name, because I have been there so much recently as well as all during 2014. When living in such a tiny home overrun by children and their things, a husband and his many hobbies and all my hobby and blogging stuff, it’s nice to purge to have a little bit of sanity back into my life!
It’s also really hard to run a successful blog the way I want when I have no dedicated blogging space. Can I get an Amen, yo? I am so excited about the fact moving is now a possibility for us! I cannot contain my excitement. I have been scouring Zillow and some other realtor websites and have found some really cute homes that are in our price range, in the area we want and are the size and have the amenities we are looking for.
So, if you’ve ever sold your first home, do you have any good tips for me on how to get ready to sell or what to look for in our next home? I would really love it if this next home is where we stay for good, so keep that in mind. I really hate the thought of moving so if this would be our forever home, that would be great!
I’ll be blogging about our progress along the way as it will really encourage me not to go insane. I will also be sharing my experience and tips that I’ve learned along in this process, both the good and the bad. I can’t wait to share it with you all!
What are your tips for selling and buying a home? Let me know in the comments below!
We are in our first home (at least until the kids are grown) but we plan to sell eventually. Can’t wait to hear all about your journey – good luck!!
