Snack time is probably our favorite time of each and every day around my house. The kiddos are constantly asking for a snack, so that means that I have to have plenty on hand at all times. I would say that most of my grocery budget goes towards crispy, crunchy snacks, and I am sure I am not the only mother in the world who feels that way, amiright? 🙂
One of our favorite snacks is homemade popcorn. I purchased a stovetop popcorn popper and I absolutely love it! It makes the most tasty popcorn in a short amount of time. Not to mention, it’s cheap! This go around, I wanted to spruce our popcorn snack up a bit with a variation of flavors, both salty, sweet and crispy, so I made this popcorn mix that is DELICIOUS! I have always loved putting M&M’s® in my popcorn, and thought adding it to this concoction would be perfect!
Since we live so close to a CVS (it’s literally just up the street),I ran up to grab some M&M’s®, and wouldn’t you know that the M&M’s® Crispy kind is back, due to popular demand! I remembered when these first came out and I really, really liked the milk chocolate with the crispy rice center, so I knew they would be perfect for my infamous popcorn mix (the kids go ga-ga over it)!
They have both the individual size that you can have as a quick snack, and the large bags of M&M’s® Crispy, so you can use them for awesome recipes like this. Versatility! Oh, and CVS has a coupon for $1 off, so get your savings on while you’re there!
The M&M’s® Crispy gives it that extra sweet and crisp along with powdered sugar, and all the crunch and salty-ness from the other ingredients. Plus who doesn’t love an M&M’s® Crispy pop of color in their snack? Let me show you how to make this beautiful popcorn mix. This is a perfect recipe for your family or even for a big party, because it makes a lot!
First, pop your popcorn (2 bags of microwave popcorn or 1/2 cup of kernels if you’re popping them on the stove) and throw it into the largest mixing bowl you have. This makes about 8 or so cups of popcorn, and you’ll need a huge bowl to have enough room to toss everything around.
Add 1.5 to 2 cups of pretzels. I love pretzel thins, so i went with those but you can use regular mini pretzels or small pretzel rods in this recipe. It will give you the same effect and it will still be delicious!
Pour your peanut butter- butter mixture over your popcorn and pretzels and toss it to coat completely. I used two wooden spoons and tossed it like a salad. It seemed to make the least amount of mess. 🙂
Add 1 cup of powdered sugar to the boll and give it a really good toss. The sugar will stick to the peanut butter and it will coat over everything. Oh my yum!
And for the final step, empty a large bag of the M&M’s® Crispy into the bowl and give it a light toss. Now you’re done! No need to wait, just consume and enjoy! We had more than enough to eat for our snack that day, we bagged up single servings and gave them to some of the girls in my oldest daughter’s Girl Scout troop after their cookie booth. Then my daughter ate another 2 bags. I would say it’s a hit and a success for my family!
