Are Prepaid Cell Phone Plans Worth it?

For the past few years, my husband and I got on two different family cell plans. I am on with my mother, and he is on with his brother. We have different carriers, different plan benefits, different issues, both negative and positive. Before we decided to make the cell phone split, we looked long and hard at prepaid cell phone services, researching whether it would be worth it or not. In all honesty, those types of cell phone services always put a bad taste in my mouth because all I had heard was how spotty the signal was, how cheap the phone was and how limited the phone amenities were. Not to mention, it always seemed way more expensive than if we were just to get on a family plan somewhere, which is what we did.

It seems like all the prepaid services are right up there or even better than normal contracted services! It used to be that you couldn’t get internet without paying outrageous prices or you couldn’t even text! Well, not any more and I am kind of excited to see how it compares. Thankfully, I get to do this by introducing the T-Mobile Simply Prepaid™ Plan here on the blog! I already know that there’s almost a 50% monthly savings off our current cell bills, which is HUGE, and I can’t wait to see what kind of service I get while saving money too.

So, I ran to Walmart and picked up the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Avant with 2 months of  4G LTE data with unlimited talk and text for just $40 a month. Ya’ll– that’s crazy! T-Mobile prides itself on award-winning customer service, a strong nationwide LTE service to all customers, including prepaid, and the fact you can get some of the latest smartphones with your prepaid service! It doesn’t sound like you have to settle for spotty-weak service with cheap-o phones when you decide to prepay. It’s nice they find that prepaid customers are important customers, too, and want reliable phones with the latest technological amenities.

You can find these in the Electronics Section at Walmart or your store may have a Walmart Wireless Section at the front of the store, so check there as well!

My husband is actually all excited about it– he is calling this the “burner phone.” If you all have watched the show Burn Notice, you’ll understand what he means. So funny!

  1. Your Walmart is fancy, you have a whole Wireless section! Mine was in the electronics section. My current phone is a Galaxy s3 and is sloooooow, so I’m loving the fast speeds of the Avant!

  2. Love the idea behind a pre-paid plan. No surprises at the end of the month. We’ve been trying to cut our monthly expenses and this would be a huge savings. #client
