The Christmas Star from Afar

This year, I started a new tradition with the kids for Christmas. Now that they’re getting older, I want to really focus on the reason for Christmas and why we as a family celebrate it. With that, I want the kids to learn about why in a fun, engaging way! I found the perfect product for that at Hallmark, and I am so excited to share with you all what that is!

Now you might be thinking, “This is just a manger, I already have one of these at home.” It’s more than that, it’s an interactive game that keeps everyone involved all the way up until Christmas!

This game comes complete with a wooden manger that’s easy to assemble and a book that explains the true meaning of Christmas. It also has daily corresponding scripture that follows the birth of Jesus and the story of the wise men following this very special star.

Every night the game is played, the Star gets hidden throughout the house. Each morning, encourage your kids to find the star!

Once the star is found, have the kids take the wise men to the star, and leave them there for the day. This is repeated until the night before Christmas. That final evening, the star returns to the manger and in the morning, the children will bring the wise men to the manger where baby Jesus lays.

I love that we are doing this tradition, because I want my kids to know without a doubt why we celebrate Christmas. I want them to know how special and important Jesus is to us and to the world, and this game is a great tool in helping to do that. I am so happy that I found The Christmas Star from Afar at Hallmark, and that we will be continuing the game each year as a tradition to celebrate Jesus’ birthday.

Here’s a short video I did about this new tradition in our home. What Christmas traditions are you looking forward to this year? I’d love to hear them in the comments below. Merry Christmas!
